On the day of the severe earthquake and tsunami, I was at the hotel on the top of the cliff in Izu Peninsula, over 600 km away from the epicenter. My partner took me there to ease my sorrow and grief over my second sister's death two weeks before. I had kept weeping at home.

Some 30 minutes after the long and strong swaying jolt, I saw the sea water drew back and the shoals got naked for some time. After that came swelling waves in succession. Here are some shots from my hotel room then.

We cut our stay short and left the hotel early next morning. The coastal roads were all closed due to tsunami warning. We avoided them, sought mountainside roads and came home. That was a shuddering experience even so far from the most stricken area.

My deepest condolences to the deceased! May they rest in peace!
May all the survivors be able to have a light ahead as quickly as possible!
